The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have joined forces to tackle the growing level of youth unemployment in the Caribbean. The US$2.7 million programme Strengthening Decent Rural Employment Opportunities for Young Women and Men in the Caribbean will be implemented in coordination with a number of Caribbean governments and key stakeholders. “With youth unemployment rates that are among the highest in the world, reinventing the role of Caribbean youth in agriculture is critical both for the region’s future and, more importantly, for young women and men themselves,” said Paolo Silveri, IFAD’s Country Programme Manager for the Dominican Republic.
