In May, Suez, with other partners, launched the €8 million RESCCUE urban resilience project that will develop and implement resilience strategies that extend beyond urban drainage systems to include climate change, transport, electricity, waste and water. The initiative will be undertaken in Bristol, Barcelona and Lisbon. Marc Velasco, newly installed project manager from Suez, told delegates at the IWA Leading Edge Technologies conference in Jerez, Spain that the four year project will be part of the 100 Resilient Cities initiative. “All three cities knew each other through their Chief Resilience Officers which was paramount in getting things off the ground. Barcelona talked to Bristol and also helped bring in UN-Habitat and other partners. Within six months we expect to have some early results in to share.”
